Notice of Application for “1+1+1” Joint Master Program between School of Government and Lingnan University of Hong Kong

I. Program Introduction

According to the agreement between School of Government of Shenzhen University and Lingnan University, master students of the School of Government of Shenzhen University can, in the second year of postgraduate study, apply for the full-time “Master of City and Governance” courses in Hong Kong, and obtain a master’s degree from Lingnan University of Hong Kong, and return to Shenzhen University to complete the master’s degree in the third year. Successful applicants for the program will eventually receive two master’s degrees, namely, a master’s degree from Lingnan University of Hong Kong and a master’s degree from Shenzhen University.

The “Master of City and Governance” courses at Lingnan University of Hong Kong are delivered entirely in English and cover the following subjects:

·Urban and Social Change

·Smart City and Sustainable City

·Regional Economic Development in China: Politics, Policy and International Development

·History, Cultural Heritage and Regional Perspectives

·Housing Policy and Development

·Urban Issues and Policies: International Symposiums

·Regional Policy Studies and Experiential Learning in the Greater Bay Area

·Understanding Social Indicators and Social Policy

·Policies on Ageing in Greater China

·Smart Management Workshop

II. Tuition

The students admitted to Lingnan University of Hong Kong shall pay all the tuition and other related fees due to the Graduate School of Lingnan University. Where a student withdraws after the official commencement of the “Master of City and Governance” courses, the tuition and other fees paid will be handled in accordance with Lingnan’s applicable refund policy. Accommodation and living expenses will be borne by the student.

Tuition:HK$145,000 (Plus: According to previous experience, a student’s living expenses, accommodation, insurance and miscellaneous expenses in Hong Kong for one year are around HK$100,000)

III. Scholarship

The master students of the School of Government of Shenzhen University who apply for the full-time “Master of City and Governance” courses at the Graduate School of Lingnan University have the opportunity to receive admission scholarships from the Graduate School of Lingnan University. Details can be found on Lingnan University’s official website.

IV. Application Requirements

1. All first-year master students of the School of Government (including Master of Public Administration, Master of Political Science, Master of Social Work and Master of MPA in Public Administration)

Note: Any second-year and third-year graduate students who meet the academic and language requirements can also apply, but the time of their graduation from Shenzhen University will be delayed accordingly.

2. Applicants shall have completed all graduate courses in the first academic year of the School of Government and have a grade point average of 3.0 or above (average score of 80 or above).

3. TOEFL minimum 550 (written) or 70 (computer-based);

Or IELTS minimum 6.5;

Or English CET-6;

Or other relevant proof of English proficiency. (Graduate Admission Test English scores can also be used as a reference)

V. Application Materials

1. Application form.

2. Transcript of the first year of the postgraduate study

3. Evidence of academic and non-academic aspects such as paper publication, subject competitions, student work, social participation, etc.

4. English scores and English proficiency related performances.

VI. Application Process and Schedule

1. Application by the Student: The deadline for students to submit electronic and written documents is April 30, 2023.

2. Selection and Interview by the School: In early May, the School of Government will organize the interview and selection work, and confirm the recommendation list to Lingnan University.

3. Interview by Lingnan University: From the end of May to the beginning of June, Lingnan University will conduct interviews with the students on the recommendation list provided by the School of Government.

4. Admission and Visa: From mid-June to July, Lingnan University will issue an admission notice, and the students will apply for relevant visas and insurance.
